Volunteers and YMCA Youth & Family Services’ staff created a warm and welcoming environment at the Healthy Kids Day event inviting families to explore free healthy snacks, health information and fun activities. Montgomery County Dept. of Transportation’s Safe Kids activities focused on road safety, teaching kids and parents how to cross the street, bike safely and properly adjust car seats. While kids were getting their faces painted, making fruit art snacks, playing Ethiopian games or enjoying the bike rodeo, parents were getting free blood pressure checks and other vital health screenings, enjoying dance performances and an energetic Zumba routine. Children met the challenges of an outdoor obstacle course, soccer, hula hoops, and jump roping. What brought the most smiles at the end of the day was the free lunch from Panda Express and a bag of healthy groceries to take home. Daniel Dalton from TD Bank led a team of TD Bank volunteers that organized and distributed fresh produce and food to community members in need. Mr. Dalton shared that the event was “amazing” and a “good interaction with the community, and rewarding on the personal and volunteer stand point.” In addition to their volunteer force, TD Bank also formally supported the event through a sponsorship.
